Finishing Technical Manager

Job Description

We are seeking a Finishing Technical Manager at our Lanett, AL folding carton facility.  The Finishing Technical Manager is responsible for the operations side of planned and preventive maintenance of the finishing equipment and inspection systems.  The Finishing Technical Manager will support the Finishing Manager in attaining departmental goals, oversee the technical training, work with Finishing production and Maintenance to maintain equipment and attain high equipment productivity.


Key Activities/Responsibilities                                                                                                                      

PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT - Work with the Finishing Department Manager and Plant Manager to meet and monitor production standards, production scheduling and production problem resolution as well as communicating issues regarding machine breakdowns and maintenance issues.

SAFETY – Promote safety program, meet safety goals, meet all government standards and ensure compliance with all laws and regulations.

PRODUCTIVITY IMPROVEMENTS – Monitor production performance for improvements and timeliness.  Work with managers to schedule preventative maintenance to minimize downtime.  Frequently review new technology for process improvement or efficiency. Support all Performance Excellence improvement efforts. Review customer feedback relating to glue defects to determine nature of quality problems; work with Finishing Department manager in identifying and analyzing root causes and bring to resolution.

HUMAN RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT – Facilitate, develop and evaluate effectiveness of technical training of employees in the utilization of Finishing equipment and inspection systems.

QUALITY – Achieve departmental quality goals and conduct quality audits to ensure customer satisfaction.  Use quality and process data for continuous improvement plans and feedback.

INVENTORY MANAGEMENT – Assist in managing, coordinating and ordering all necessary spare parts, supplies and materials for the production equipment in a cost-effective manner with strong emphasis on maintaining and improving the efficiency of glue lines.

Scope of Work

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

·         BS or BA degree in business technical field, related field or equivalent experience in a paper converting operation

·         Excellent communicating skills including verbal, written and interpersonal

·         Proficient in PC based programs

·         Excellent leadership, management, problem solving and decision-making skills

·         Thorough understanding of manufacturing systems


Working Conditions and General Work Requirements

·         Hearing and eye protection

·         Safety shoes

·         Standing and walking

·         Overnight travel – 10%

·         Frequently required to work overtime, weekends, on-call 24 hours a day/seven days a week
