Summer Sounds - Brittany Avery & GP38
Summer Sounds in West Point. Country Western music is the featured music genre at this week’s Summer Sounds Concert on Friday, June 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the West Point River Park. The park is adjacent to City Hall on 1st Avenue and US Highway 29. The free concerts are sponsored by the Greater Valley Juneteenth Committee in partnership with the City of West Point. Brittany Avery and the GP38 Band are from Columbus, Georgia. Growing up in a musical family, Brittany began playing guitar at the age of 11. She is a singer- songwriter who has performed in many venues around the country and the audience can expect an array of songs by such artists as Miranda Lambert, CCR, Tracy Chapman, and original music. Brittany is also the lead singer in the band, Southern Sky, and this week she will be join GP38’s Chris McDaniel on lead vocals and lead guitar, Paul Formby on bass guitar and vocals, Gene Avery on acoustic guitar and vocals, and Jeff Stewart on drums. GP-38, whose name is derived from a popular train engine, delivers high-energy performances. They bring 30 years of Rock 'n 'Roll and Country to life with an original sound that is blended from both. This group formed in the college town of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Summer Sounds Friday evening concerts are free and family oriented. Be sure to bring a lawn chair or blanket, umbrella, picnic dinner and sit back and enjoy some great music. Parents should bring a towel and a change of clothes for children who want to enjoy the new water splash feature at the park. In the event of rain, the concert will be cancelled. No alcohol is permitted in the park The final concert features gospel music on June 17. The artist are The James Brown Trio with Charles Story and the Greater Peace Youth Ensemble, gospel. These concerts were made possible by the generous donations of Capital City Bank, Charter Bank, West Point Development Authority and the J Smith Lanier Insurance Company.
